Prologue:
"Sir...I can't contact Alpha squad." A young marine muttered as he tapped his helmet, hoping it was only a malfunction. The sergeant raised an eyebrow at this information as he looked down at the buildling the scientists had just entered. Everything appeared normal, maybe it was just interference from inside. "Alright, let's head in and take a look, it's probably some kind of energy inside blocking the signal." The squad leader replied, motioning the rest of his mean to follow suit as he went down the hill towards the entrance. Sergeant Ericson saw nothing out of the ordinary, just a trio of warthogs out front.
A few swift handsignals later, a pair of marines entered and took up a defensive position just inside, motioning that everything appeared to be clear. Another two entered, including the sergeant and began to do a clean sweap of the area just inside, noting that nothing seemed to be disturbed at all. What was odd, however, was that there were no guards stationed anywhere. The squad moved deeper into the installation, pausing at the sight of a large scortchmark on the wall, looking relatively fresh. Shock ran down the body of Ericson as his eyes fell upon this ominous sight. "Jed, Porter, you two take the left hall. Rich, Harme, you two take right, Me and Dante will go centre." Ericson ordered. The other's nodded and went their respective ways, the Sergeant leading the way down the middle.
It wasn't long traveling down the cooridor only to hear sounds of explosions, machineguns and...Plasma rifles? This was quite unsettling, to say the least. Last time he heard the sound of plasma weapons was during the war. What if the Elites were attacking again for some reason? Hadn't they agreed to a truce between Humans and themselves? Him and Dante exchanged similar looks, obviously he was thinking the same exact thing as himself. With that, the Sergeant moved forward slowly, rounding a corner. His eyes widened at the sight of giant aliens which were covered in fur. They appeared to have what was left of Alpha squad pinned down behind some boxes, many dead bodies strewn around them, Marines and scientists alike. Ericson lifted his rifle, took careful aim and squeezed a single round at the back of one's head. To his horror, the bullet struck what appeared to be a body shield, almost exactly like the one's Elites had in their armor.
Without further delay, both him and Dante opened up with their rifles in an attempt to penetrate their shields. Suddenly, right next to the Sergeant, there was a sickening crunch then thud of what sounded like a body hitting the floor. Ericson wipped around, bringing his rifle to bear on whatever was behind him, seeing nothing but the corpse of his comrad slumped on the ground, his armor heavily dented and crushed in some area's. The man didn't know what to make of it until a single Brute seemingly materialized out of thin air. It held a sinister grin on it's face with the terrifying Gravity Hammer in hand. Ericson had no time to react as the giant lifted the weapon over head and brought it down.
